crafter-school word mark 2019

MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Parenting has been my most important and joyful work. After retiring in 2007 from corporate work that included extensive global travel, I dedicated my time to the academic, artistic, social and emotional learning of my kids, then 4 and 8 years old. The convergence of a traumatic enrichment class experience for my son and my enjoyment of leading art exploration in both of their classrooms was explosive, leading to the little business that could: Wishcraft Workshop. I should have known the business would grow beyond its sewing and art class offerings. We were the first to offer eco-ethical programs. The first to creatively integrate STEM concepts in the art. The first to incorporate social-emotional learning in a natural way. But I knew I couldn’t be alone in wanting better for all of our kids, which brings us to you.

After enjoying a warm reception in the community, and at the request of families and local school administration, we created Crafter-School™: the place in Chicago for students to grow their creative voice and build the capability and compassion needed to create opportunity and solve problems big and small, globally and locally.

I am an artist, author, strategist, thinker, tinkerer, teacher, student, speaker and very concerned global citizen. I write, photograph, design and curate. I make things, make things happen, make friends and make friends happen. I live in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood of Chicago, eat the fine home-cooking of my English Professor husband of 25 +years, coddle a naughty rescue mutt and hoard green beauty products. My kids are near grown and I’ve learned a lot along the way.

I’m so glad you’re interested in learning more about this adventure, and venture, with me. We’re creating profitable businesses that includes the activities you love while making a difference in the lives of children, families and the shared future of our planet. It Starts With The Art™.

"To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of the arts." -Henry David Thoreau

Doesn’t every parent want to see their child...

  • confidently sharing their ideas?

  • curiously pursuing their spark?

  • growing self-awareness and learning to self-advocate?

  • developing independence and leadership skills?

  • being compassionate, resourceful, patient?

What if after-school felt like a play-date at their best-friend's house? It can. And it does.

In Crafter-School™ we play with wave-length and stitch-length, flexibility and miscibility, automation and celebration, parallelism and pointillism, citizenship and artisanship... We learn with open-ended projects of our own design (no stickers or pre-fab here), get kinda messy, make new friends and know every child by name. And now you can lead your own Crafter-School™ program. License sales commence Fall 2019.
