STEAM Gets Stylish-- Our Summer Camps in Chicago
Stylish + STEAM-y Summer Camps in Chicago for Creative Kids
As fans of creativity and innovation we couldn't possibly introduce a new summer season without unveiling some sort of surprise (or two or three!) Camp starts June 8 (half-day 9am-12pm with after-care through 6pm) and full-day camp (9am-3pm with afternoon programming through 6pm) follows through September 4, 2015. Read on... (or if you're already in the know, start your registration by creating a customer account here.)-We're celebrating our (lucky) summer season 7 and it's Spoolhouse Rock™ with Project Wishcraft all summer long! Click here for a printable PDF of the schedule or read more here about how campers Grades K-8 all get an age-appropriate creative experience to rave about.-Welcome to paper-free, 100%-online registration for fast access to the information you need to plan and manage your child's summer activities. This system gives you visibility to your camper's schedule at any time (including automated waitlists!), ability to update your own information and print receipts, and for Spoolhouse Rock™ members, online access to priority reservations for our afternoon drop-in programs Summer Crafternoons™ and Pincushion Social Club™ and discounts on all programs. Camp drop-off will be a breeze!-Each Project Wishcraft Camp is open to students Grades K-8. In camp students are grouped with their peers into one of the following groups led by a dedicated Creative Counselor :The Starry Stitchers (approximate ages 5-6 years)The Pedal Pushers (approximate ages 7-8 years)The Seamster Squad (approximate ages 9-10 years)The Stellar Sewphisticates (approximate ages 11-13 years)Groups travel separately through a variety of creative lessons and experiences. Small groups get to know one another. We get to know your camper and their needs and interests. Students get to know their Counselor while enjoying the expertise (and personalities!) of all our amazing instructors and guest speakers (see our growing list of experts here!) All campers enjoy the stylish fun and have a machine-sewing and learning experience (from independent to adult-assisted) with their peers while having access to the entire facility. Our weekly camp curriculum also takes full advantage of our big, beautiful space (two-floors), additional technology, materials and high-end sewing equipment and proximity to parks and outdoor spaces.-Our most popular camp of all time, Project Wishcraft, gets even better. There is so much to learn and make and do while building confidence and making new friends that we've divided the experience into a collection of camps that delve deeper into the topics to inspire their ideas and sharpen their skills: The Haberdasher, The Recyclista and The Rocker join the ranks of The Editor, The Maker, The Merchandiser and The Stylist. Sew Long Summer and Sew Long School also join the Project Wishcraft family and book-end the season. Like confidence-building bootcamp for blossoming fashion designers (and stylists, fashion journalists, pattern-makers, buyers, accountants, software engineers, artists, authors..) of all genders, campers design and construct clothing and accessories while learning machine- and hand-sewing, embroidery, applique, elements of personal style, silhouette, fit, flat-patterning, garment construction, consumer and media literacy and industry basics. No previous sewing experience is required and those with experience take on new challenges. A fashion-show for the campers takes place on the final day of full-day Project Wishcraft camps and both video of the fashion show and image files from the photo shoots are made available for family members to share. See our Camps page for complete descriptions of each camp experience.-We continue to deepen our connection with the City of Chicago's STEAM-focused learning and digital badging program. Like all of our programs, each camp uses an integrated learning approach to keep academic topics like math, history, literacy and science fresh and fun alongside hands-on, open-ended and age-appropriate creative experiences.-Afternoon programming is available for every day that camp is offered-- the original Summer Crafternoons™ and the Pincushion Social Club™, Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm (afternoon snack and programming begins at 3pm for campers, 330pm for guests joining us for just the afternoon) and is discounted by the week for campers. Friends that want some weeks at the beach and pool but want a crafty, cool (our A/C rocks) place to hang out in the PM can join the afternoon programs 330pm-6pm with a punch-card. It's a great way for campers to have their friends drop-in to the workshop for a playdate (uh, hang out.)-And like every year, all our camps continue growing with new techniques, new games and new projects.JUMP Into Summer Deal- Planning your child's summer activities can require masterful organization.
